The TBI investigating a shooting Thursday afternoon in White County after Sheriffs Deputies allegedly returned fire, killing a 40-year old White County resident.
Investigators following up on a disturbance call just after 3:00pm Thursday on Olen Road that involved James John Fox. According to law enforcement reports, Fox walked out of his home and fired a rifle at deputies. The deputies returned fire, killing Fox.
District Attorney Bryant Dunaway called in the TBI to investigate, as part of normal procedure.
“TBI agents are working to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews,” A TBI Spokesperson said. “Investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General for further review and consideration.”
No one else injured in the shooting. The officers have not been identified.
