Resurfacing set to resume Thursday on State Route 294 through Overton and Clay County. Motorists should expect lane closures between Oakley Allons Road in Overton County and Willow Grove Road in Clay County. Flaggers will be in place and motorists should use caution. Overton Grand Jury Missed Two Cycles

The Overton County Grand Jury Meeting has skipped the last two cycles as a result of the pandemic. A meeting has now been scheduled for September 21. Unemployment Falls Across The UC

Unemployment fell below double digits in every Upper Cumberland county last month except Dekalb County. Warren County saw the biggest decrease in July as unemployment dropped 2.5 percent to 9.9 percent. Dekalb County’s July rate stands at 10.3 percent, but that’s down 1.2 percent from June. Overton County’s June sales tax numbers jumped 7 percent from last year. TBI Investigates Rickman Woman’s Death

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a 90 year-old Rickman woman over the weekend. A caregiver arrived on Saturday to the home of Euretha Williams on Bradley Qualls Lane. The caregiver noticed a broken window, gained entry to the home and found the woman deceased inside. Overton County Election: School Board Has Two New Members

The Overton County School Board will see two new member. Wayne Taylor defeated Mike Sullivan for the second district seat with a count of 457-184. Mitchell Stonecipher ran unopposed and will take over the fourth district seat once held by Howard Miller.
