Spencer To Update State Financing Board On Water Efforts Next Month

The city of Spencer will report to the state Comptroller’s Office Water and Wastewater Financing Board next month on ongoing water efforts.

Communications Director John Dunn said the state board has asked for an update on water loss and future plan to serve customers.

“We’ve had really good conversations with the new administration there in Spencer,” Dunn said. “Ultimately, it will be up to the city to decide what it wants to do moving forward. We believe there is an opportunity for the rate payers of that utility to be served in a better way whether that is through the city of Spencer or some sort of merger.”

Dunn said the city merging with Warren County Utility District remains the best option according to the board. Dunn said the city is set to address the board by the end of February. Dunn said another full board meeting will be held on March 23rd.

“We are very hopeful that the new mayor in Spencer is interested in having talks with our office as well as the Warren County Utility District about doing what is best for both the customers and stabilizing rates,” Dunn said.

Dunn said the city has taken the appropriate measures thus far. Dunn said water rates have been increased as well as updates to its capital outlay plan justifying how costs are allocated.
