Spencer Secures $525,000 For Homes On Billingsley and Taft

Residents living along two streets in Spencer will soon see some improvements to their homes.

Mayor Mickey Robinson said the state has funded $525,0000 to repair certain homes on Billingsley Street and Taft Drive.

“There’s quit a few homes in that area that maybe need a new roof, windows, or heat and air units,” Robinson said. “Really, it’s just a matter of when we have the contractor inspect the homes for what they need. They all won’t be the same.”

Spencer has received $900,000 in home improvement grant funding this year. The Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) awarded the city $375,000 in June.

The $525,000 comes from the state’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. Homeowners on Billingsley and Taft Drive will have to meet certain eligibility requirements in order to receive repairs.

“These grants are very important because it’s money that’s needed in the community,” Robinson said.

A meeting will be held Wednesday to discuss the application process for the THDA grant. Meetings for the CDBG grant will be announced in the near future.
