At least 24 employers will be seeking to fill multiple positions during a job fair in Spencer Thursday.
City Mayor Mickey Robinson said adults and high school students will benefit from the hiring event.
“That same day, they’re going to be doing a career and college day with the high school kids,” Robinson said. “The kids will get an idea of what colleges are out there, but also an idea of what kind of jobs are going to be available for them when they get out in the workplace.”
Some of the employers planning to attend the job fair include Jackson Kayak, Tennessee State Parks, Bridgestone, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office and UPS.
The City of Spencer tries to host at least two job fairs each year. Robinson said previous events have proven to be very successful.
“The last one we did in May, we had approximately 100 people come to it, which about 50 came from the high school,” Robinson said. “We had another 50 come in off the streets wanting to apply for jobs. It’s important to do and it makes a difference.”
The job fair takes place October 24 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Van Buren County High School auxiliary gym.
