The City of Sparta will place a school zone at Roosevelt Drive in front of White County High School.
Mayor Jeff Young said the Board of Aldermen and Mayor hope to have the zone in place before the new school year.
“But I think it is something like in a small town like ours, we haven’t had too many new school zones,” Young said. “We have schools that are already established and I think we just need to do some homework to find out who is supposed to do what, when, and we will get it done.”
Young said the city needed to address the issue years ago.
“It’s been talked about for probably almost two years and it is needed, I agree with Aldermen Lowry, it needs to be done,” Young said. “And we have had it brought up to the city board on at least two other occasions by school board members and the director of schools.”
The White County first day of school begins on August 7. The Board of Alderman and Mayor passed a resolution regarding the zoning in July.
