Sparta Starting Work For PD Evidence Building

The Sparta Police Department is on its way to having a new evidence building.

Public Works Director Dillard Quick said the concrete slab was poured this week and expects to begin framing next week. Quick said he anticipates finishing the project in the next three weeks, solving a long-time need for the police department.

“It’s probably been on the radar for about two years and it’s just something that the police station has needed when they have a car or anything that they need to be able to lock it up,” Quick said. “It’s just something that’s been needed for a long time, and it just made the budget last year, and this year and we’re just glad to take care of it for them.”

Quick said the price tag on the project is under $25,000 for a 30′ x 66′ building with three garage doors. He said this project is being done in-house.

“This is something that we try to do in-house to save money,” Quick said. “If we were to bid this out, it would probably cost twice as much.”

Quick said the building will also be wired for lighting and security. The evidence building will be located at the Sparta City Garage.
