Sparta Hosting Free Concert To Celebrate Memorial Day

Sparta hosting the Salute to the Troops Concert Saturday as a part of the city’s celebration of veterans.

Mayor Jeff Young said the city sponsored event begins at 7:00 p.m at the Sparta Amphitheater.

“We want to do our best to pay tribute to all those that have served our country, fought and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” Young said. “It’s the lease that we can do to celebrate their time and efforts that they have done.”

Young said this is the sixth time the city has held the concert. Young said the band Shattered will perform once again bringing some classic rock hits. West Coast Tacos will be on location and an electric guitar, guitar stand and gig bag will be given away.

“It’s a venue that has a stage and it is lighted that seats about 230 to 240 people. It is a great atmosphere,” Young said. “I hope a lot of folks come out to celebrate with us, the lives and efforts of the veterans.”

Young said all the money raised from the event will go towards the Wounded Warrior Project. The non-profit offers a variety of programs, services and events for wounded veterans of the military actions following September 11, 2001.
