Friday would have been the first day for the Sparta Green Market. The market will now return for the 2020 season June 19th.
Co-Founder Steve Ware said the market will run from June until October from 4-7 p.m. every third Friday.
“We decided to push it back because it is a gathering place of people,” Ware said “Even though it is in the open air, it is a gathering place where people might not feel comfortable coming out and visiting.”
Ware said once the market does open, guidelines such as social distancing and wearing masks will be encouraged. Hand sanitizer will also be provided for attendees.
“We don’t control what the vendor does,” Ware said. “There is no fee to come in. They just have to be able to produce their food. We can suggest guidelines ,but they operate on their own ”
Ware said the Sparta Green Market originally opened, so customers could meet the growers of their food, but quickly turned into a family event.
“We decided to bring the farmers of the local area of Sparta together for an outdoor market with entertainment, crafts and things that could be done with the kids,” Ware said. “I don’t think too many other markets do that.”
Ware said he expects people to be excited to come see the produce for this growing season.
