Sparta City Admin. Chris Dorsey Accepts East Ridge Position

Sparta City Administrator Chris Dorsey will soon step away from his position as he becomes the next city manager in East Ridge.

Sparta Mayor Jeff Young expressed his support for Dorsey’s decision on Friday.

“We will definitely be sad to lose Mr. Chris Dorsey. He’s done a very fine job being our City Administrator,” Young said. “He just feels like this will be the best thing for him and his family to take the job in East Ridge, and we wish him the absolute best.”

Dorsey previously served as Red Bank’s city manager in Hamilton County for six years before becoming Sparta’s city administrator in 2013.

Young said Dorsey has played a vital role in Sparta’s recent economic and community growth over the last few years.

“Chris has done a good job in his capacity of working with myself and the board in making sure we’ve got the right people in the right positions as far as our city staff and making sure that works great together,” Young said. “But we’ve tried to encourage growth by changing some ordinances around, updating our code books, and different things like that to allow different entrepreneurs to come into town.”

Young said the Sparta Board of Mayor and Alderman will soon begin the search for their next city administrator as Dorsey will likely leave for East Ridge at the end of April.

East Ridge is a community along the Tennessee and Georgia state line within the Chattanooga metro area.
