Sparta Budgeting For Fire Station 2 Roof Repairs To Complete Renovations

Sparta wants to replace portions of the Fire Station 2 roof.

The city’s budget has about $17,000 allocated to the work. Chief Kirk Young said leaks and general wear and tear caused him to request the upgrade.

“The roof in the garage area is approximately 15 years old,” Young said. “We did the living quarter areas about two years ago, and there was not a need at that particular time to do the bay area.”

Young said he will begin the bid process now that the budget passed Thursday. Young said once the roof is complete, the building will practically be fully renovated.

Young said the building is one of the oldest used by the fire department with the inside being restored about eight years ago. The station is located at the end of Bockman Way in front of the Post Office.
