The Sparta Board of Aldermen and Mayor appointed City Recorder Tonya Tindle as Interim City Administrator Thursday night.
Mayor Jeff Young said Tindle will have multiple documents to sign before Sparta can hire a full-time administrator.
“We do need to appoint, for administrative reasons, someone to on an interim basis to be the city administrator,” Young said. “I would like to appoint at this time with the approval of the board, Mrs. Tonya Tindle to serve until we can hire someone.”
The appointment comes after the resignation of City Administrator Chris Dorsey.
Dorsey said he wanted to complete the budget and walking trail grant before officially resigning.
“I have enjoyed my four years here, you all have been a great board to work with. I have said that publically to you all and privately,” Dorsey said. “I envy whoever comes in after me for this position, because you all have literally been there, have been very supportive of me and the city.”
Dorsey accepted the city manager position in East Ridge near Chattanooga in March.
Sparta’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen officially opened the application for a new administrator in April.
