The Sparta City Council will reopen parks and green spaces Friday.
“We still want to maintain social distancing, we want to have signage and make sure our city staff are telling folks that,” Mayor Jeff Young said. “People have been shut in for a long time.”
The council agreed to the reopening Thursday night, but did not formally vote. Young said pavilions and playgrounds across the city will remain closed. Young said those areas would be barricaded to prevent usage.
Young said it seemed appropriate with just four reported cases and the weather warming to allow people outside.
The city closed all open spaces when Governor Bill Lee issued his stay-at-home order. That order remains in effect through April 30.
