Sparta’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen officially opened the application process Thursday in search of their next city administrator.
Current City Administrator Chris Dorsey announced last month he has accepted the city manager position in East Ridge near Chattanooga beginning May 3rd.
“I plan on staying another month right now to help get through the budget process and some of the smaller projects we’re working on,” Dorsey said. “I’m trying to get as much off my plate as I can.”
Dorsey has served as Sparta’s city administrator for the past four years and decided to make the move to be closer to family.
Mayor Jeff Young commended Dorsey on his time with the city during Thursday’s meeting.
“I would just like to say again what I’ve told you before… it’s been an absolute pleasure to meet and work with you,” Young said. “You’ve done a fabulous job with the city of Sparta and we wish you the absolute best in your new endeavors.”
The Board voted unanimously to open the application process.
