The Upper Cumberland chapter of the Southern Off Road Bicycle Association is hosting a volunteer trail building day Saturday at Monterey’s Meadow Creek Park.
Member Heather Call said the organization has been working with Monterey for the past year to open the parks first mountain bike trial.
“The entire project is a 13 mile loop that will start from the parking lot of the Meadow Creek Park Lake,” Call said. “We currently have gotten about two miles done.”
Call said so far, a climbing access trail stemming from the parking lot has been completed. The goal for Saturday is to clear as much trail as possible, so volunteers are welcomed starting at 8:00 a.m.
“SORBA is a southeastern chapter that focuses on creating and enhancing trail experiences throughout the southeast,” Call said. “There are many different chapters, and in 2019, a group of local mountain bike enthusiasts got together and made the Upper Cumberland chapter.”
Tools and materials are provided with snacks also available. Call said COVID caused the volunteer days to stop over the summer but are now back. People interested can meet at the park’s parking lot and visit www.UCSORBA.org for more information.
