A snowstorm has repeatedly impacted Neal Street in recent weeks and Cookeville city officials want your help to stop it.
“At least a half dozen times, (someone) dumped what we think are wipes along Neal Street and in the vicinity of Neal Street,” City Manager James Mills. “And when I say dumped wipes, it’s hundreds and hundreds of them. And sometimes it’s looked like a snowstorm.”
Mills said the dumping began about two months ago in the Cookeville Mall to old Walton Road corridor. Mills said it happens in the late night hours.
“We’re getting frustrated and we’ve not had anybody report who’s doing it. One or two times, it might have been an accident. This appears to be on purpose. So we’re appealing to the public. If anyone knows or has any information about someone who’s dumping why they appear to be baby wipes or some type of paper towel along Neal Street, please contact the police department. We want to talk to them.”
The dumping first happened every couple of weeks. Mills said recently it has been more frequently. Crews have been sent to clean up the area as Mills said it represents a bad look for the city.
“It’s just ridiculous,” Mills said. “People need to care about the city and its appearance and the environment. And it’s just ridiculous that people would do that. We need some help.”
“If people will let us know if they have any information on this, we would appreciate it.”
