Smithville Man Charged With Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault

A Smithville man appears in court Thursday for charges that he locked a woman inside his home against her will.

DeKalb County authorities charged 22-year-old Ronald Barbosa Gutierrez with kidnapping and aggravated assault. He remains behind bars at the county jail on $25,000 bond.

Officers arrested Gutierrez last week after responding to a fight at his Allen Street home. Upon arrival the affiant observed a woman with a large knot on her forehead and marks on her neck.

The woman told officers that Gutierrez had struck her with a beer bottle and tried to choke her as she held her four-month-old son.

The defendant allegedly locked the woman inside the home and refused to let her leave.
