First United Methodist Church of Smithville is trying to address homelessness in DeKalb County through a new aid program, Live and Let Live.
Program Chair Dean Adcock said that the program offers those experiencing homelessness the opportunity to shower, get clean clothes, and a warm meal.
“That means that as we live, we’re supposed to help others live,” Adcock said. “According to the teachings of the Bible, we’re supposed to help our brother. No matter who they are or what they’ve done, if there’s a need, we’re supposed to help out and reach out to them.”
Adcock said that right now they have about 10 to 15 volunteers helping with the program. He said that they have future goals of creating a shelter structure to help people get out of extreme weather.
Adcock said that those who need the program’s service can reach out to the church at (615) 597-4961.
