Shooting Victim Identified, Subject Arrested in Cumberland County

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a man in connection with a Tuesday night shooting that left one dead and two others wounded.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation identified the deceased victim as 23-year-old Makayla Manning. Authorities have not identified the two wounded victims who remain hospitalized in Knoxville.

The shooting occurred at a home along Vandever Road near Lake Tansi. The identity of the subject has not been released at this time as authorities hold him for questioning.

The TBI is also investigating a body found five miles south of the shooting location along Critter Creek Road. Deputies responded to the scene around 6 p.m. after dispatch received a 911 call about a body found in a pile of trash.

TBI states earlier reports referenced the incident as a shooting, but further investigation has revealed that may not be the case. The male victim has not been identified at this time as authorities investigate the death as an apparent homicide.
