Jackson County will use a $500,000 grant to repair homes for at least five families this year.
Randy Heady is the Mayor of Jackson County.
“These are people that don’t have the income to do the fixing of their homes,” Heady said. “They might need windows, floors, cabinets or new doors and sometimes they get a new house.”
Heady said the county received the grant last year and just finished the application process for those needing home repairs.
“We already have five homes that are on the list for repairs or a new home,” Heady said. “We will fix those in priority and if there’s money left at the end of that we will take more applications.”
Heady said the grant changes lives and provides a fresh start for families that wouldn’t have it otherwise.
“There are families on this list that’s been approved, that, if they didn’t get this they wouldn’t get the remodel,” Heady said. “There would be no help for them if they didn’t get this grant.”
The Tennessee Housing Development Agency awarded the grant to the county last year and the repairs should get underway later this year.
Heady said the county received the same grant about 15 years ago.
