The Putnam County School System will take another shot at trying to sell the former Uffelman Elementary School.
Superintendent Jerry Boyd said the school system rejected a single bid for the three-acre property last year.
“The one single bid was lower than what we felt was the value of the property,” Boyd said. “We’ve had some other offers since then but we still have to go through a public bid process. I’m recommending that we use the online auction through GovDeals.”
The school board voted Thursday to set the minimum online bid price $300,000. The school system still owns the adjacent ballfield for the school.
“It will be auctioned as is,” Boyd said. “If we do not get any bids, I’ll come back to you, and the board can decide if they want to pursue another route or lower the minimum bid. Hopefully, at one-third the cost of the appraisal value, it should be marketable.”
The school board unanimously approved a motion to use an online auction approach for the building.
Boyd said he expects the property to be listed online sometime next week.
