Putnam County School Officials pleased with the work of the district’s cleaning service over winter break.
Deputy Director of Schools Tim Martin said the company met with every principal in the system before the break to determine what needed to be done. Martin said the majority of the work focused on waxing floors, along with some detailing and deep cleaning.
“They are very happy with what went on,” Martin said. “We had a few things that they felt like, probably had three or four schools that they felt like everything that they wanted didn’t get finished but the company has been addressing those things since we’ve been back.”
Martin said the school board is also to credit for this success as it was what specified that any new cleaning company would have to work over the different breaks.
Martin said the unfinished items were minor things like a single room that needed cleaning or replacing a janitor who quit over break. Martin said it has made a major difference for the system to have a company cleaning the schools during all major breaks.
“In the past they worked in the summertime but they haven’t worked on fall break, Christmas break, spring break,” Martin said. “And we have gained a lot from that. We had a really good fall break and I think we had an even better Christmas break as far as them getting our buildings in really good shape.”
Martin said custodial work is extremely important for a school system because of the large number of students and staff eating and producing trash in all of the buildings.
“There aren’t many buildings around that have as many people in them on a daily basis as a school building does,” Martin said. “And so just cleaning up after people is a big deal.”
