Cookeville City Council passed on final reading Thursday a change to the zoning code allowing private and parochial schools in the Commercial-Industrial Mixed Use District.
The council asked city staff and the planning commission to consider changes to the rules in that district, potentially eliminating rules that might not apply to schools. Those changes will be considered at a later date.
Council also gave final approval to the new division of Human Resources, part of work to better organize the city’s leadership structure. City Manager James Mills said he had received no calls since first reading.
Mark McKinley will continue to represent the city on the Putnam County Board of Equalization after council reappointment. Lauren Metts-Greening will join the Public Building Authority, a new six-year term. Greening replaces Jeff Jones, who stepped down. The council also reappointed Mark Hutchins and Jim Martin. The authority oversees the Leslie Town Centre.
The city added 12 new streets to its city road list. Council approved the purchase of 23 new dumpsters at a total price of some $26,000. Council also approved the purchase of a new truck for the Public Works Department and a step van for Leisure Services.
