A Tennessee Department of Transportation project will close the Roberts Mathews Highway Bridge for six months beginning December 2.
Built in 1936, the bridge goes over Falling Water River at the White and Putnam County line. The closure allows construction crews to replace the current bridge structure.
The $1.4 million project requires the closure of South Jefferson Avenue from South of Lovelady Road in Putnam County. In addition, crews will close Roberts Matthews Highway North of Lancaster Road in White County.
Officials said drivers can use Highway 111 as a detour around the construction area.
Project funding comes from a contract under the State Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration. TDOT has scheduled a May 29 completion date.
