Renovations To Crossville Depot Being Explored

Crossville City Administrator Greg Wood is working with a local downtown group to renovate the city’s depot.

Downtown Crossville Inc. has donated $10,000 to the project to go along with $30,000 budgeted by the city. Wood said the groups wants a pressure treated deck and new barn doors.

“Just make it at least a three-season venue out there so that the outside deck, if you’re going to have a larger function, you can use the inside and outside,” Wood said. “Just an overall upgrade for the facility that would be good for the folks in Crossville.”

Wood said an uncovered portion of the deck could also be removed to place more landscaping and benches. The work has not received council approval yet as the final project budget is made, Wood said.

“Another issue there is aesthetics,” Wood said. “There is a warehouse behind the depot right now that doesn’t present a good backdrop for a party or wedding photo. We’re going to do a barn door arrangement. We’ll have walls all the way around of cedar and have barn doors that can close or open. It’s a pretty neat design.”

Wood said he wants to possibly offset costs by working with TCAT to make it a student project. Wood said he also anticipates more donors to contribute.

“We’re going to try our best to just go ahead and do the whole project,” Wood said. “Get the most bang for our buck and make it a great facility for the folks of Crossville.”
