Recent Rain And Sunshine Points Towards A High Pollen Count Spring

One Cookeville allergist anticipates this spring to bring plenty of pollen that could make for a severe allergy season.

Allergy, Asthma, & Sinus Center’s Dr. Erin Rohman said it may be too soon to tell, but recent weather indicates a pollen filled spring.

“It’s hard to compare it to years past and say it will be better or worse, but what I do know is that all the rain that we had last week and the fantastic sunshine this week is setting us up for just a really beautiful spring,” Rohman said.

Rohman said with March here, it is time to start your spring allergy regimen. Rohman said by mid to late March, peak allergy season arrives. Rohman said the season will start with tree pollen and quickly transitions to grass pollen.

“Go ahead and get prepared,” Rohman said. “Whether that is getting in with a board certified allergist and getting some testing done or whether that’s continuing your allergy shots if you are already an allergy shot patient. Whatever that looks like for you, now is the time.”

Rohman said if you want to lessen the impact of pollen, avoid opening your home or car windows. Rohman said besides that, getting a proper diagnosis serves as the best way to fight allergies.
