Rainy Forecast Lowers Turn-out at Docks

With rain in the forecast for Memorial Day weekend, docks and marinas may see fewer day-use customers.

Carl Nash is the Day Manager at Cookeville Boat Dock.

Nash said the forecast can scare away public customers.

“Our weekend-warriors, our die-hard customers, that have flips here always come down and enjoy the holidays because this is their vacations and their fun times. But the public customers, the day use customers, are always a lot less whenever it comes to a rainy day holiday,” Nash said. “And depends more on the forecast really than if it is raining or not. And if it does rain they usually have most of the lake to themselves. ”

The dock does not worry about the forecast ruining the turn-out, Nash said.

“We always do the same preparations for holidays, to try to be on top of it as we can, because even though the rain forecast comes in, nine out of ten times,” Nash said. “You know the weatherman gets as close as he can but doesn’t always get spot on. We always have a lot of people using the lake, because you come to the lake to get wet, so to speak. ”

Nice weather holidays bring in the most people, Nash said.

“Normally we see in the thousands. Our parking lots will completely and utterly fill up and even be boiling over as far as that goes,” Nash said. “If the weather forecast is good and hot because everyone needs to get wet in the summertime. ”

When the forecast calls for rain, the number dwindles between five hundred and eight hundred, Nash says.

The Cookeville Boat Dock will expect lake-goers despite the weather, Nash said.

“Of course we are running a new restaurant this year, which has brought a lot of people in with the same good food. We have got a few ramp updates up front,” Nash said. “We don’t ever do any big plans for Memorial Day, maybe a little local music in the restaurant for a few dock’s customers.”
