Rail Trail Authority Schedules Work Session On Monterey Rejoining

A work session has been scheduled for January 13th to draft a new inter-local agreement for the Tennessee Central Rail Trail Authority.

Authority Board Member Brian Payne said Monday that the purpose will be to bring Monterey back as a member through a new draft.

“Then ultimately, all the powers (…) the different entities would have to vote to approve that inter-local agreement just like they did initially,” Payne said. “All we’re doing is like you said we’ll be making our recommendation of how that should look like.”

Chair Tara Wohlgemuth and Payne will travel to the Monterey Depot Museum for the 10:00 a.m. work session. Wohlgemuth said city and county mayors that the authority represents will need to approve before Monterey is adopted.

Algood, Cookeville and Putnam County currently make up the local agreement. During the authority’s November meeting, discussions of connecting the rail trail to Meadow Creek Park started.

Since then, Payne visited the site and said the park will be, “Awesome.”
