The Ragland Bottom Day Use Beach in Smithville reopened on Monday
The Center Hill Lake recreation area closed last week due to elevated levels of E. Coli. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said non-migrant geese droppings caused the bacteria levels to rise.
Officials said measures will be taken to prevent future occurrences.
“Visitors are encouraged not to feed geese around designated swimming beaches and are asked to report any health related illness to local county health department,” according to a statement from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Nashville District routinely tests water quality at its designated beaches and swimming areas. Officials noted that designated swimming areas at Floating Mill Recreation Area tested in the normal range and remained open last week.
