Putnam Schools Planning For Proms To Happen

Putnam County Schools are planning for proms this April.

Deputy Director of Schools Tim Martin said he believes prom will be a reality as long as COVID numbers stay the same in schools and the community. Martin said the system’s goal has always been to find a way to have these ceremonies for students.

“We want our students to have a full experience, especially our seniors that are going out,” Martin said. “We want them to be able to have a prom and a graduation and those types of things. Last year seniors missed out on a lot and this year seniors have already seen things a lot different.”

Martin said there would be some level of COVID restrictions in place, but those are still being determined at this time. He said the system will continue to monitor COVID case numbers.

“That’s always the case as we start seeing numbers rise, we start planning,” Martin said. “What if they continue to rise and what are we going to do and how will we have to do it? It’s been our hope all along that we would be able to have our ceremonies as normal as possible.”

Martin said Putnam County Schools will have to finish the year with some COVID restrictions. However, he said the hope would be to enter the next school year restrictions could be lifted.
