Putnam County Humane Society wants to enhance the care of the animals at their facility through retractable shade awnings.
Director Jennifer Farley said that’s why they’re asking for donations to purchase two awnings for $500. She said that the awnings would help both the facility’s animals and employees.
“It would help keep them dry during rain,” Farley said. “It would also keep them out of the direct sunlight when it’s very, very hot outside. It’s one of the things we try to do to be as humane as possible for these animals and give them everything we can while they’re here visiting.”
Farley said that the awnings would provide extra comfort to animals while they’re at the facility for spay and neuter surgery.
Farley said that while $500 may not sound like much to some, in order to stay under budget and keep costs low for their customers they have to stick to a tight budget.
“We have to base our fees based on the amount of donations we have coming in or do not have coming in,” Farley said. “(…)That $500 to purchase something to improve our facility actually just keeps our fees lower and it helps us help more animals in the long run.”
Farley said donations can be made online through their Facebook or directly through their website. She said you can also donate directly at the facility located at 180 Miller Road in Cookeville.
Farley said in addition to funds, people can also donate items like dog food, cat food, cat litter, newspaper, and paper towels. She if there are ever products that the facility doesn’t find a use for, they share with local rescue groups and Cookeville’s own shelter.
