The Putnam County Humane Society is fundraising to continue its Access to Care program.
Director Jennifer Farley said they will participate in the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s Giving Tuesday event on May 5. Farley said over 50 percent of clients cannot afford spay and neutering, let alone surgery at a full service vet.
“They’re doing the absolute best that they can to support themselves and their children and we want to make it so that it’s okay,” Farley said. “We can help with the dogs, we can help with the cats. The idea is to keep these animals in their homes that they’re already in.”
Farley said the goal over the year is to raise $30,000 to keep this program going another two years. She said that due to COVID the Putnam County Humane Society will be focusing on online fundraising.
“We’ve helped a number of animals that have come through our clinic that have had issues that they’ve lived with their whole life,” Farley said. “Things like cherry eyes, entropion, where the eyelids actually grow into the eyeball. We’ve helped with some tumor removals.”
She said to follow the humane society on Facebook for more information on ways to help. Farley said there are still more announcements coming about ways to help the Putnam County Humane Society.
“Between the Giving Tuesday online fundraiser, we’ve had a donor who donated something that we will reveal here shortly,” Farley said. “That we will be doing a silent auction on. Then of course, relying on the goodness of the community to donate towards this cause.”
Farley said that there are three ways to help support the humane society. She said that includes buying things off the wish list located on its website, monetary donations and sharing information about the humane society on social media.
