Putnam County EMS working to upgrade its Homeland Security Dispatch Trailers.
EMS Director Tommy Copeland said they use the trailers can become the home base for Upper Cumberland emergency departments if their facilities are unable to be used, such as in an emergency or if they’re under construction. He said that the consoles which are used as communication hubs for radios and dispatch calls are just about out-of-date.
“If they have an event where they need to use them this makes them more digital or more versatile,” Copeland said. “More with the existing technology so changing between radio systems and being able to adapt between different frequencies, everybody uses different frequencies. It’ll just make that easier.”
Copeland said that the department received one bid for the upgrades at some $22,000 to replace four consoles. He said that they are hoping the equipment comes in this week and will be swiftly implemented.
