The Putnam County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is hosting an online auction to raise funds.
Casa Coordinator Darlene Jones said the funds from the auction will go towards recruiting and training advocates. These advocates volunteer to be the voice of children in court under DCS custody and find homes for abused and neglected children.
“These are children who are in trauma situations and need that extra little help to get through the situation without too much difficulty,” Jones said. “That is what our advocates do.”
Jones said the idea for the online auction came after their annual Happy Trials Hoedown fundraiser and auction was cancelled. Items include gift certificates, appliances, sports memorabilia and much more. People may place bids until June 18th at the UCHRA CASA Facebook page.
“When our hoedown got cancelled and we had an office full of all these items, we wondered what we were going to do with them,” Jones said. “We started to brainstorm and saw other nonprofits falling into the same type problem. We started to figure out what we could do, and we thought this was the best idea.”
Jones said they do receive some state grant money, but it is not enough to fully support the program. The money will help balance their budget for the fiscal year.
With more people being online right now, Jones said this auction is a great way to reach more people. To bid on items, people need to email casaputnamco@uchra.com with your name, number, item number and bid amount.
Jones said winners can pick up and pay for their items on June 19th at the UCHRA building or request deliver. For more information, call Darlene Jones at (931) 520- 9611 or (931) 265- 6471
