Price Murder Case Heading To Putnam Grand Jury

A Putnam County grand jury will determine the fate of a man charged with killing a woman in Cookeville.

38-year-old Andrew Price appeared in court Friday afternoon for a preliminary hearing. He’s facing multiple charges for the May, 2019 stabbing death of 22-year-old Kelsey Lamb.

During the hearing, District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway presented three testimonies from Cookeville Police personnel involved in the investigation.

Police Officer Jeffery Nunan spoke first, stating he had interacted with Price on previous domestic incidents. Nunan said he arrested the defendant in February for allegedly striking Lamb during an altercation.

During testimony from CPD Detective Tammy Goolsby, a voicemail was played that Price had left on Lamb’s phone on March 1 following his domestic assault arrest. In the voicemail, Price threatens Lamb by telling her “I will kill you, your mamma, your daddy,” and others that Lamb knew.

Nunan testified he later responded to a domestic incident at a home on Fountain Drive in May. Upon arrival, Nunan described the scene as “chaos,” stating Lamb was outside the residence lying on her back with a stab wound to the chest, laceration on her lip, and a slit throat.

Nunan stated he began administering first-aid on Lamb until EMT personnel arrived on scene and transported her to Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Nunan testified Price had called his father – who had gone to the home following the incident to remove children from the scene – and apologized for what had happened.

CPD Detective Sergeant Ryan Acuff testified that, following Price’s arrest, Price admitted to killing Lamb during interrogations.

Dunaway said after the hearing the Putnam County Grand Jury could consider the case later this month. The grand jury will consider charges of second-degree murder, aggravated and domestic assault, theft, and two counts of violating bond conditions.
