Watch out for limbs in roadways this morning across the Upper Cumberland after Wednesday night’s strong winds.
Winds gusted to 48mph at one point Wednesday evening in Crossville, according to the National Weather Service. Gusts around 40mph were common through the afternoon and evening.
Warren County Emergency Management reported a tree down on a house on West End Avenue. Another tree damaged a home on June Street. In Dekalb County, a gas station awning was blown over.
As of 4:15am, Volunteer Energy reported 473 power outages in Cumberland County, focused just south of Crossville. VEC reported scattered outages in Fentress, Pickett, and White Counties. Scattered power outages were reported by Cookeville Electric, including near the intersection of I-40 and Highway 111, where traffic lights are out. Upper Cumberland Electric reported outages in the Vista Circle, Cove Road, Mill Pond and Prichard Pass areas of Putnam County.
The Storm Prediction Center issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Upper Cumberland just after 11:00pm Wednesday night, despite a relatively stable environment. Only one warning was reported in the two hours after and the watch was discontinued. The wind advisory was also discontinued.
