Porter In Discussions With Possible Buyers Of Fairgrounds

Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter is in discussions with possible buyers for the fairgrounds.

Porter said it is hard to tell at this point, but an update of an offer could be brought up at Monday’s commission meeting.

“I have some folks that I have been talking to about the sale of the fairgrounds that are interested,” Porter said. “We will see how that goes. It is a slow process, but we do have some folks that have contacted me that I have been working with.”

If there is not a proposed commitment for the property by the July meeting, the sale would be brought back to the county commission to explore other options. Porter was approved to seek a private sale of the land in March.

The 35 acres is zoned regional commercial, which is the same as the Shoppes at Eagle Point on Interstate Drive. That district does not have limitations on the size of development and does not allow any type of residential development.
