Planned Power Outage Throughout Crossville Area Saturday Night

A planned power outage in the Crossville area set for Saturday night beginning at 10pm.

The outage expected to last for about eight hours and will affect all those powered by the Lantana and Crossville substations in Cumberland County. The purpose of the outage is to allow TDOT to safely move two transmission lines as part of the ongoing Highway 127 project.

Volunteer Energy Cooperative is encouraging those affected to keep freezers and refrigerators closed during the outage, as well as to refrain from using a gas stove or oven to heat their homes. The VEC also said it is important for people to make sure they have ways to refrigerate medicines or use power-dependent medical devices throughout the event.

The outage is planned to affect more than 9,500 people in the area.
