Pippin Road Crash Claims Life of Two Cookeville Teens

A single-car crash on Pippin Road claimed the lives of two Cookeville teens Friday.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed Saturday 16-year-old Layton Proffitt and 17-year-old Leigh Anne Eldridge were involved in the crash.

The THP crash report states Proffitt was driving westbound on Pippin Road in a 2002 Dodge DSX with Eldridge in the passenger seat. The model of the Dodge was not known in the report.

The accident occurred when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway, overturned, and struck a tree. The report states the cab of the vehicle collapsed and the two teens died on impact.

The THP report indicates both teens were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident, but may not have made a difference. Drugs and alcohol were ruled out as probable contributors.
