PCSS Addressing Bleacher Repairs Starting With Algood Middle School

The Putnam County School System looks to perform district wide repairs and replacements on bleachers.

Deputy Director of Schools Tim Martin said the school system has started with interior repairs at Algood Middle School.

“That’s probably going to be finished over the summer,” Martin said. “As soon as that one is finished, we are going to be looking at Upperman High School. The gymnasium there has some work to be done, and then of course, we have our outdoor bleachers. We are always looking at those.”

One estimate in a spring school board work session had $200,000 for indoor bleachers system wide and $150,000 for Upperman High School football bleachers. Martin said bleachers repairs are a constant effort with all schools needing some type of work.

“Project over at Algood Middle School we are spending about 15 to 16,000 dollars in the gym over there, and that’s all just underneath. The things you can’t even see,” Martin said. “We have to inspect the frames and work on the motors that pull those things in and out.”

Martin said majority of the work for indoor bleachers tends to focus on tracks and wheels. Martin said overtime, food and drink build up and cause problems.
