The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department seeking funding to provide mental health services to correctional officers.
Sheriff Eddie Farris said the department is applying for a two-year grant for $175,000 to fund the program.

Farris said mental health in law enforcement is a real issue. Farris said correction officers face traumatic situations such inmate suicides that often times get etched in their mind.
Farris said if awarded, the department will work with Tennessee Public Safety Network. Farris said the service will work closely with correctional officers to provide mental health services. Farris said the state sheriff association voted to bring the group on board this year.
Farris said he does not have a timeline of when the federal grant may be awarded.
