Paddle boats are back at Cane Creek Park.
Cookeville Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said the activity has been unavailable this summer. Woods said the lake level was lowered for shoreline work which limited rentals.
The floating dock that we rented them from was basically on the ground, so we lowered the lake to be able to do some work on the north shoreline,” Woods said. “We’ve pretty much completed all of that work.”
Woods said the level has now reached a safe level for water activity. However, Woods said the paddle boats can only be rented on the weekend. Woods said staffing issues within the department has led to decreased hours.
“We have struggled to get enough staff members,” Woods said. “We have lots of jobs open, but we don’t have enough staff members to staff the concession area and the rentals everyday.”
Rentals will be available Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Woods said five paddle boats, two canoes and four kayaks are in the water.
The rate is $4 for half an hour.
