Overton County will receive some $500,000 in FEMA reimbursements.
County Executive Ben Danner said the county was reimbursed for the work it did during the ice storm two years ago. He said that before that, they had bid the work out and gotten outside help.
“The last time we got a million back, but we had to borrow a million too,” Danner said. “So this time, we got money back that we already spent for payroll that we didn’t have to borrow. So this money can go straight to helping the Highway Department. It’s a really big deal for us, I mean that amount of money in some counties is really not a lot, but $500,000 from FEMA is really big and it will help us do a whole lot for the Highway Department too.”
Danner said that the reimbursement will help the county pay for things like roadwork and equipment for the department. He said that this was made possible through “hundreds of hours” of work from Budget Chair Darwin Clark.
