Overton Schools Launches Online Registration

Overton Schools is seeing success with the launch of its new online registration program.

Technology Coordinator Brent Thrasher said that a program of this nature has been in the works for some time.

“We’ve always wanted something like this to help reduce the paperwork,” Thrasher said. “At the beginning of the year there are always binders of things and forms that teachers have to collect. And an all-online registration helps to eliminate all of that for us.”

Thrasher said that this has been a want for parents as well. He said by doing the forms online, it eliminates having to repeatedly fill out the same information, such as the child’s name.

Thrasher said the program operates through Skyward, an online resource that parents are already familiar with to check students’ grades. He said parents can log in to their family access account and begin the registration process.

“We are really encouraging everyone to do the online registration and if someone is unsure about going through those steps our schools have been really great about opening their doors to allow folks to come in,” Thrasher said. “Our attendance secretaries have sat down with parents and grandparents who are maybe unsure about the process. And they’ve walked them right through it and it seems like its went well and everybody is always willing to help out.”

Thrasher said that the biggest thing Overton families need to know with this change is that registration happens in May instead of August. He said registration closes on May 31st.
