Plans to renovate Livingston Academy’s football stadium have hit a snag.
Mark Winningham is the Overton County Director of Schools. He said the school board needs to decide what is best for Livingston Academy and the community as a whole.
“There’s been some concerns about the ability to place a track around the existing football field and the possibility of purchasing some property in order to have a multiple use facility on the grounds,” Winningham said. “So, that’s kinda where we are right now is determining which course we want to take.”
The school board previously approved a $4.3 million budget for renovating the current football facility. The plans included new aluminum bleachers, restroom facilities, and potential updates to the stadium grounds.
If the school board ultimately decides to change course, Winningham said they would likely vote to build the facility next to the existing stadium.
“[We’ve been] trying to explore the possibility of having a multi use facility rather than just have a facility that’s strictly for football,” Winningham said. “I think there are many people in the community that would like to have a multi use facility there and I think that’s been expressed on the board.”
The current stadium hasn’t seen a major update since it first opened 40 years ago.
