Overton K-9 Unit Approaching One Month Since Missing

After four-weeks of searching and pursuing leads, Overton County K-9 Unit Bella has yet to be found.

The dog escaped from her handler’s property last month. Sheriff John Garrett said the department has extensively searched the area by foot, drone and with infrared cameras.

“A multitude of sightings that have been reported we have followed up on those and what dogs we have been able to locate did resemble her but had yet to turn out to be her.”

Bella was last seen at Bilbrey Road in Livingston. Garrett said at this time, there are more questions than answers as to her whereabouts.

“There is that pending question of has someone picked up the dog unknowingly?” Garrett said. “Did someone knowingly take the dog? Those are still questions we don’t have answers for, and we may never have answers for.”

Garrett said hundred of hours in training are invested in the tracking dog as well as the handler. Garrett said Bella was purchased four years ago through the department’s drug fund.

“And it’s a continuation,” Garrett said. “At least 16 hours of training a month, so you can do the math and over a couple of years it does not take long to add up.”

A $5,000 cash reward is still being offered for the safe return or information on K-9 Bella. Garrett said the department asks the public to contact the office if you have seen the dog.

“I appreciate the community support and keeping an eye out for her,” Garrett said. “I appreciate all the tips and sighting that have came in.”

Garrett said the narcotics/tracking dog is a Belgian Malinois with two-toned brown fur standing at about 30 inches. Bella was wearing a collar with the sheriff’s office information.
