The Overton County Schools have three plans ready based on COVID-19 for the start of the new school year.
Director of Overton County Schools Mark Winnigham shared the plans during a Wednesday COVID-19 update in Livingston.
“Right now we’re not sure exactly what school will look like when it starts back,” Winningham said.
Plan one would be a normal return to the school year with full capacity schools reopening August 7. The second plan would feature a staggered schedule where half of the students would attend school while the other half remained at home. Each student body would rotate every couple days. Winningham did not specify how the staggered schedule would work, such as grade level designation or other means.
The third plan would be no students in school buildings and the continuation of a distance learning approach. Winningham said this would be employed if COVID-19 numbers again surge.
Right now, Winningham said it’s a waiting game. “We’ll keep you apprised of that as we go through the summer,” Winningham said.
Athletics will return in a limited fashion Monday. Winningham said specific guidelines and regiments are being shared by coaches and the Livingston Academy athletic director.
