Overton County officials and Upland Design Group are continuing to finalize plans for a new county services building after meeting with Livingston’s City Planning Commission.
County Executive Ben Danner said the planning commission approved the proposed parking layout despite not quite meeting city requirements.
“We had to get one variance for the parking because the city ordinance calls for so many parking spots for that size of building, and we’re not going to meet that,” Danner said. “They gave us a variance on that, but we’ll still have 78 parking spots. We’re working on the final plans, and when that’s done in about two or three weeks, we should be able to go out to bid after that.”
Danner said the building process could potentially be bid in sections depending on what the county budget can handle.
“We’ll have to look and see who comes in with the best price and go from there,” Danner said. “We’re going to bid it with the basement or without. We’ll just have to see when the pricing comes in if we’re able to do the whole building or just partial. Then we’ll look at all the bids, see who’s the lowest and best bid, and go from there.”
Danner said the project is still on track with hopes of construction beginning later this spring.
“I wish we were already started but this is a bad time of year for construction,” Danner said. “Everything seems [on track]. It should be sometime in the end of March we get started and break ground on it.”
The Millard V. Oakley Services Building will take approximately 16 months to complete once construction begins, according to early estimates from Upland Design Group.
