Applications are available for Overton County’s Junior Fair Board.
Junior Fair Board Director Sonia McCowan said that kids from 7th grade through 12th grade to apply. She said that the experience has many benefits for Overton County kids.
“It’s just a fun way to give back to your community, it’s a good way to get volunteer hours that you need when you go off to college,” McCowan said. “So the volunteer hours is a big reason. We also have a scholarship that we give out each year to one of our seniors who have graduated.”
McCowan said that they typically take about 25 to 30 kids each year. She said that they are looking for individuals who are dependable and ready to work.
“WE do a lot of clean up before the fair, cleaning the booths and around the grounds and tidying it up,” McCowan said. “They’re a big help on entry day, put the entries on the shelf and stuff. On events, they get to pick the events they work the entire fair week. Whether it be a pageant show, or a goat show, anything that they put down. We have office runners, which is kind of a like gofer, where they just help when needed.”
McCowan said that applications are available for pick up at Overton schools with the proper age group. She said that applications are due March 4th.
