Overton Commissioner Sees Importance of New LA Stadium

Overton County Commissioner Robbie Melton foresees no reason she will not approve plans for the new Livingston Academy Football Stadium.

Melton said she sees this as a good investment for Overton County, and a good investment in the county’s kids.

“Playing sports is a big incentive for a lot of young people to stay in school and to make their grades, and I think in the past we’ve seen that, and I’ve seen it personally and I think it holds true today and in the future,” Melton said.

When the stadium plans are presented to the Overton County Commission, Melton said she hopes to hear the stadium will have multiple uses and is a safe facility.

“I’m looking to see that it will be used not only for football, for other sports, and it will be a facility that will be used for many years. It will be safe, and something the county can be proud of for many years,” Melton said.

For the multiple uses, Melton said it will be used for track and also soccer. When asked if she thinks there is any reason she will not approve this plan, Melton had this to say.

“I don’t foresee any,” Melton said.

Economically, Melton said she believes the funding is there to build the new stadium for Livingston Academy. The School systems current funding balance is $9 million dollars, with a yearly growth average of $570,000.

The Overton County Commissioner’s next meeting is September 14th. Where they could hear the plan for a 12-year, $8.9 million bond to pay for the stadium.
